Gallego Donates $17,500 in Palantir Executive Cash to Immigrant Relief
Arizona Sen. Ruben Gallego donated $17,500 his campaign received from Palantir executives to the Arizona Undocumented Workers Relief Fund, the Arizona Mirror reported on July 27, 2026. Gallego’s office confirmed the donation and stated he will not accept Palantir contributions going forward.
The $17,500 came directly from Palantir’s c-suite, including its chief revenue officer, its chief legal officer, and the executive responsible for placing Palantir software inside government agencies. Gallego’s office cited the Trump administration’s use of federal contracts to expand ICE operations as the reason for the decision.
Palantir Operates as ICE’s Surveillance Infrastructure
Palantir, a surveillance technology company co-founded by Peter Thiel, holds federal contracts that form the data backbone of ICE enforcement operations. Stephen Miller, a senior Trump administration advisor, owns stock in the company, as do other administration officials. The Trump administration has actively pushed to expand Palantir’s role across federal agencies.

Gallego is not the first Arizona Democrat to divest from Palantir money. In May 2026, U.S. Rep. Greg Stanton donated $500 he had received from a Palantir executive to Maremoto, a Latino political advocacy group. Both decisions came after Palantir Payroll, a watchdog project tracking the company’s political contributions, flagged the donations publicly.
Federal Contracts and Political Money Create a Feedback Loop
Palantir secures federal contracts, then its executives donate to members of Congress who oversee or vote on those contracts. Palantir Payroll tracks these contributions to document the connection between political giving and government contract awards. The watchdog’s co-executive director, Theo Oshiro, said the project exists to make officials’ ties to mass surveillance technology “impossible to ignore.”
The Arizona Undocumented Workers Relief Fund, which received Gallego’s $17,500, provides direct financial support to undocumented immigrants in Arizona affected by federal enforcement actions.
