The Trump administration froze all USAID funding on January 20, 2025. By March, 83% of programs were cancelled. On July 1, 2025, USAID was officially closed and 300 remaining staff folded into the State Department. The agency lost 97% of its workforce. Over 10,000 direct employees and 200,000 global staff lost their jobs or stopped receiving pay.

A Lancet study projects 9.4 million additional deaths by 2030 from halted health programs. A UCLA analysis puts the figure at 14 million. The Center for Global Development estimates between 500,000 and one million additional deaths occurred in 2025 alone. PEPFAR terminations are projected to cause 159,000 adult deaths and 16,000 child deaths. Treatment for 14.8 million children with pneumonia and diarrhea was eliminated.

Tell your representatives to restore global health funding and re-establish an independent development agency. The FY2026 budget includes zero dollars for bilateral maternal and child health. Disease outbreaks do not respect borders. The Ebola outbreak in the DRC is already testing that reality.
