The Letter
The Virginia Plan to Reduce Gun Violence Act (S.4339) was introduced on April 16, 2026, the 19th anniversary of the Virginia Tech shooting. It would ban assault weapons, limit handgun purchases to one per month, require reporting of lost or stolen firearms within 48 hours, close the boyfriend loophole for domestic abusers, create a federal extreme risk protection order process, and establish gun-free zones around mental healthcare facilities.
No federal assault weapons ban has been in effect since 2004. The Assault Weapons Ban of 2025 has not received a vote. The Virginia Plan is the most comprehensive federal gun bill introduced in a decade. Tell your senators to co-sponsor it.
